I just had vinyl flooring put down and I hate the color. Does anyone know if it can be painted or stained?

No comments? Is it because you don't know the answer, or that the question is just boring?

Well, I have seen pictures of all sorts of floors painted, and I know you also can paint laminate. so, why not try on a spare piece..cleaning it well, priming it well, then paint and then seal with poly. I have seen folks paint vinyl back splashes...but I am sure it does need to be sealed well.

@Kathy Logan another thought. why not 'google ' painting vinyl flooring and see what you come up with. I know someone will say , it will scratch etc..but I think if it is sealed well, maybe not. I painted our laminate bathroom counter ..I don't think there is a huge difference in vinyl and laminate, and it never scratched. 3 coats of poly sealed it well.

Hope this was helpful. Let us, me, know because someday I may have to do it too! ha! How about a picture of ...before....?

Hey another thought! If you paint, instead of a solid color , do a variation of the colors so if there is a blemish, it wont be noticeable. Lighter , darker areas..don't know how to explain it..so that the eye moves over the floor instead of focusing on one shiny blemish! I used Latex paint on my countertop, as did my friend who did her kitchen countertop..Then poly. If you are doing a floor I don't see why you cant use a pole and roller..ok now I am excited for you!!!! :) :) :)

Good gravy , talk about excited.. my dil..did her bedroom wall in 2 shades of sage green, the trick was she had a roller that applied 2 different colors at the same time, and the paint pan held the 2 different colors, they were tone on tone. it was awesome! You could do that to the final coat of your floor, just over lapping or moving the roller around, so you don't have a solid color, but subtle variations. you go girl!!!!

OOOh, I like that idea Did she use a kit?

hmmm I am not sure....I do know the roller is specific for that treatment. Whether the pan came divided or she just divided the colors in the pan...not sure but half on one side and half on the other I guess.
