Need help with dog pee pad

Ok I need help, we have a teacup maltese trouble in a 5 lbs package he is an indoor dog. Uses a pee pad. We are opening the kitchen are up, so no bathroom for his pee pad. Suggestions on how to hide his pee pad some what in the opening.

I was thinking the same thing along the lines of hiding a litter box that's out in the open. The plastic tub would be cheaper and easier, but the chests are a really cool, multifunctional way to hide pet bathroom habits and look pretty!
