I am trying to build an eyebrow pergola/arbor on the side of my house. I got two heavy wooden half corbels to support it, but need to know how is the best way to attach them to the side of my house. I have wooden paneling over some round logs so there is something to anchor to if I knew how.

Most of the sites I went to say to drill holes through the corbel and use screws to attach to a stud.

Thanks, Donna. I found that also when I searched. These corbels are 6" x 6" x 20" so are quite heavy. Most of the screws that are long enough didn't seem to be very large in diameter. I just couldn't find how much weight they could hold.

Do you have access to the other side of the wall? What you need here is pull out strength. If you could mount a ledger board to the wall and get multiple fasteners into that into several studs, then corbels to that you could probably carry it. If you can get to the other side of the wall without serious re-work..consider a flat plat on the inside with lag bolt or threaded rod through the wall into the corbel with recessed nut/bolt..then it can't go without the wall going...just my thoughts. I agree though that just screwing them into the edge side of an exterior wall stud probably won't get it....if there is a header to bite into you would probably be ok.

Thanks for your input. Even though I have wood siding, it is covering logs. So anything I screw into will go into some large logs.
