Farmhouse kitchen advice

I really need to redo our kitchen! Its chicken themed now, but I want to transform it into a more general farm theme. The walls now are BRIGHT turquoise with wood cabinets and white laminate counters. I want to change the walls and probably paint the cabinets. The counters will have to stay the way they are for now. I also want to stay away from grey if possible because our living room is dark grey and I want to mix it up :) Im just having a really hard time choosing paint colors!

Have you considered a pallet wood back splash? It's inexpensive, and you can easily "age" it to look like old barn wood!!! I'm excited to see what you do!!!

What about light blue walls, white cabinets and a bead board backsplash painted a darker blue. Or reds. Red and blue both go well with grey.

@Samantha Herold No I don't. I think as long as you accessorize with blue on your counter, the white would be ok. please let me know what you end up doing. I would love pics too!! Good luck and don't stress too much:)

If you use the pallet wood aged and horizontal. If you angel the middle piece of wood you could hang vintage kitchen tools off it. I think I would go with more of a Robin's egg color instead of bright turquoise. I saw some great under counter lights at Costco today that would help keep it bright at night. Good luck!

What about a soft yellow? A friend of mine who is just super at decorating on a tight budget has always told me that paint color is the LAST thing that you should pick. Find inspiration for your room, in artwork for your wall, fabric, decorative items that you like,or something like a platter or teapot. Really just anything you are drawn to. Then choose your color based on your inspiration piece. Also if you have not already done this, purchase a compete fan deck from Benjamin Moore, bring it to your home. This will cost about $25.00 but will be well worth the investment. Have fun and keep us posted.

I'm liking the light blue idea :) but a whole fan deck is probably a great investment for the rest of my house. I didn't know you could buy them!

@Samantha Herold Yes, you can. Do this before you pick your blue. Go to the ben moore website and you can order it . It will really help you. I loan mine out and hound my friends until they return it. Order 3 or 4 samples that you think you might want and then paint 3'x3' sections on your actual walls, live with them for several days before choosing. You might be very surprised at what you end up choosing. Before I learned this trick I would go to the paint store, pick a color I liked and go for it. This was a mistake. Buying the fan deck and samples is an investment in time and money, but living with a color you don't like is much worse. Keep us posted.
