Entryway/Foyer Decor Ideas

Entryway-not sure what it's missing?
Should I try a different plant or something else in this corner besides the plant stand? The blank wall makes me unsure if I should put some pictures or wall art?
I love this table just not sure I have the right decor to accent it.

I have almost the exact type of entry way and if I had better computer and camera skills I would post a picture to see if you liked mine. I placed a french county rush seat bench against the stairs, purchased a small rectangular table for the wall where you have your sofa table and lamp. Above that table I placed a school house wall clock, a lamp and welcome sign on the table. One one side of the door, I redid a small child's table and chair that fit in the corner. I reupholstered the seat in a monogram fabric and stenciled a tree of life on the table. On the other side of the door a placed a tall, narrow plant stand and plant. On both sides of the door I placed small, oblong mirrors. Sorry to ramble. It took me about three years and many attempts to be happy with my entryway. All of the things I did were very inexpensive and found the items at places like TJ Max , Home Goods or Goodwill. Have some fun and add something whimsical and personal.

Color is always my go to when something isn't working. If you don't mind changing out the white, pick something that ties into the rest of the house and works well with your natural lighting. A painting or family picture, a mirror - any of those elements would work on the wall below your stairs. A small vignette works well on a table below the stairs. The table is okay, but, what about seating? Someplace to sit when you're putting on your shoes, boots, etc. as you are on your way out. A small table with a pretty dish to drop your keys in? A standing hall tree to hang a guest's coat or jacket on? I don't see a coat closet in the pictures. Or one of my faves - hooks to hang the jackets on. Look for inspiration on Pinterest, this site, BHG, etc. I usually keep a folder on my desktop with pictures and/or print them out, to get the look I want. I'm in the midst of changing mine, so it's a little messy right now, but, I can tell you there's a small desk where we deposit the mail , in its own basket on the desk. There is also a small wastebasket for junk mail, so it never makes it all the way into the house. I have a closet on the one wall, a barrister bookcase with antique dolls displayed in it. There are various wreaths I keep in a basket there, that I change out on the front door. It's more of a vestibule than an entryway, but, it gets the job done. Just inside the inside door, is a small wood chair.

Boy do I know the feeling!!! However I am looking at the door, it is so ..so...uninteresting. I would at least paint the trim..however the door could be an eye popper! check some posts..many have painted their interior doors, and they just add so much personality. Then you could add other things if you really feel it is needed , at least on the door wall. hmmm looking again, a collection of mirrors over the table?
  • You need color and a new ceiling light (or spray paint that one with hammered Rustoleum spray paint!) you have a nice console table but I would look for a bench to put there either upholstered or wood with pictures of your family framed to mimic the triangle and the other bare wall think about a large favorite picture of your family or print that means something to you (Walgreens has great sales online for poster size prints if you sign up for their emails). By the door I would think about moving the table there and put a place for 'stuff' if you use the door to come in and out. The pedestal you have behind the door is lost because it blends with the color of the walls- so maybe if you are scared of color look at Oatland Subtle taupe, Woodrow wilson putty in Valspar colors at Lowes and go with more depth on the walls in a taupey beige. A couple shades darker than what you have on the walls now will make a huge difference! I would get rid of the outdated brass switch covers and just go with white or color of switches. start with little changes and go from there. Good luck!

I would move that table over to the wall by the door and hang a mirror over it, seeing yourself one last time before heading out the door, then add another piece of furniture by the steps with a lamp or maybe a small bench , that would be cute. I do like the pillar with the plant in the corner but the walls need a color, if nothing bright, then maybe an ecru with white trim. Good luck with whatever you do

I would stencil the wall behind the table with an all over pattern to give that beautiful table a rich background and I would put some art, pictures or word/saying plaque by the front door to make you smile every time you go out of it. I would also add a rug across the floor change to try and help increase the visual flow from one flooring to another. Just my thoughts. Have fun with it!

To me your vase of flowers needs some height and be a little wider by adding some floral stems in the same colors as your bouquet. Then on the wall by the door I would hang a nice sized picture or mirror and then put a wall console or a shelf under it. Adding photos for examples

I would move the table over beside the door, get an umbrella stand pr something lower for behind the door, after you paint the door, and where the table is now, put a really cute, interesting little chair there to sit on for changing shoes etc. that door, painted black with the table beside it would be really classy.

Your foyer area is blessed with lots of light, therefore it can handle a jolt of dramatic color. I'm going to offer 2 different suggestions: 1. I agree with others about moving your table next to the door & hanging a mirror above. Make your front door tie in with the table by painting it the same color (black or dark brown-I can't tell from the picture) as the legs on the table. Use the same color for your light fixture. This will tie the separate elements together. 2. If you are keeping the rug, pick a color from it & paint your door that color. Your front door does not have to match the other doors in your house. It is the entry and should make a statement. The white door just doesn't seem to fit with the style of the table & the dark rug. Shorter chunkier vase & a pretty basket to hold keys etc. I also agree about using a bench by the stairs. You have a great space. Best of luck!
