Hi, so I decided to change my bathroom vanity. The previous owners put tile but only around the old vanity now a have a big gap roughly 30x19x1 and have no idea what to do. The old vanity was 30x21 the new one goes from wall to wall 43 in but is only 18 in deep to give me a little more floor space. The water spot is only a stain from a previous leak, I had it check. Any body has any suggestions on how I get this level? I will love to just rip the tile off but I cant get into that right now.

  • If you can't redo the whole floor right now, put another layer of plywood to build it up to the right height, try to find tiles that match and take the ones out that are half tiles around the edges and put some more grout in between the new tiles, if the grout don't match the old grout, Lowe's has some grout paint so you can paint all the grout, Good Luck, pictures after you finish…

@Carolyn Faye Blizzard Lanier I got some cement board and it filled the gap. I will be going to home depot hopefully I can find something similar. Love the idea of painting the grout! Thanks!

You can buy think plywood to level this...if it is too thick, go to a hobby store and buy some thin craft woods. Why not take up a few more tiles and put in a "permanent rug" in front of the vanity? You would be limited only by your imagination! That way, if the grout color is a bit off, it will look like you planned it! In fact, this rug could be in a more colorful pattern and you could put in a different color grout if you desire! We want to see pictures. (When finishing off, molding is great!)

@Angelica I hope you saw "thin plywood" (typo). There are so many pretty patterns and accents for tiles now that you can make something very pretty! And it will not stick out like a patch would!

Put a piece of wood to level the vanity and then buy a decorative tile to fill in the gaps. They make beautiful tiles as small as 1 x 1's. They are meshed together on the back but you can separate them to use as is or you can make your own pattern. With the old tile being a neutral color it shoul be easy to match tiles. Good luck....

I would put some duct tape over the plywood subfloor joints; fill the depression with self-leveling Ardex and then faux paint the cementiouse like fill to look like your tile and grout. It will be as easy to remove later as the tile more or less but would hide it for now.
