  • PREP is the most important part of any paint job! You need to remove the doors and hardware and clean them and make sure there is no grease, oil, or stuck on food. Some say sand, some say not. It depends on how rough the doors and cabinets are and if food has been stuck on there because a sander can remove the dried on stuck on food. Then get a good primer for cabinets/glossy surfaces (i like zinsser) but everyone has their own recommendations). Light coats of primer with a good brush and rollers-do not skimp here! then choose a color and do light coats to avoid drips and other problems. Semi gloss or a satin is best if you are just painting them because this allows you to wash and keep them looking new (in my opinion after painting several kitchens and having messy kids!). If new hardware is not in your budget, clean up the old hardware and spray paint them! Rustoleum's hammered spray paint is a wonderful thing and can make any ugly handle look new again. hope these tips helped. Good luck
