I've been hand-picking Japanese beetles off my plants and dropping them in a bucket of warm, soapy water.

I spray my plants with dawn dish soap and water, for bugs but I wasn't sure if it would kill the Japanese beetles. Thanks for sharing!!

100% effective organic pest control: Mix a solution of water, epsom salts, baking soda, 1 drop of dish washing liquid, one drop of concentrated neem oil and cayenne pepper. Mix in a watering can and pour from a sprinkle spout over your plants. Pour on the soil around the plants. Epsom salts is magnesium sulfate, so will fertilize as well as kill pests. Baking soda kills fungus, Foliage loves neem, so does the soil. Pepper keeps bugs as well as "critters" away from your plants. You can also put this mixture in a spray bottle and spray on all leaves of your plants. If you use a spray bottle, omit the neem oil because the neem oil will clog the spray mechanism. Do not put any more than one drop of neem oil in your mixture because temps above 70 degrees F will cause larger ratios of neem oil to burn the leaves of your plants. Under 70 degrees, you can use as much neem as you want.
