Wood was lack luster and upholstery was in good shape but faded. So I decided to paint the velvet.
I vacuumed really well and made sure to mask off the wood anywhere it came into contact with the fabric since I decided to just polish the wood and not paint any of it.
This picture shows the first coat on the back of the chair. I ended up doing two coats to get good coverage. The second coat I applied just before the first was completely dry so I could get down into the nap of the velvet. I used a rose colored acrylic craft paint and fabric medium. I ended up using 2 small bottles of paint and on bottle of medium. Really scrubbed the color into the nap of the velvet as I applied the color. And finally pulled my brush with the nap on the final pass over to straighten all the nap.
Here is the finished look all dry and wood polished. Very easy to do and love the results. Looks like the chair has new upholstery.

A little stiffer than original fabric but certainly an improvement. It will last quite awhile since the fabric was just faded. Maybe one day I will have it reupholstered but since do really do not sit in it probably not. I have a large vintage doll the size of a three year girl that I am making a vintage dress for that will sit in this chair. It is near my front door and is a good spot to drop my purse and packages as I lock the door. :-)
