Watering is the Key to Success

How many of you forgot to water your newly planted basket or shrub?
How many of you had a plant just die a couple months after you planted it?
Most of the success of gardening comes from simply remembering to water. Yes, watering.
Anyone can buy a plant and stick it in the ground but a true gardener is the one who remembers to water the plant EVERY DAY for the first 30 days and then every couple days during the sweltering heat of summer. There is only one exception to watering-if it has rained enough to soak the ground and the plant.
I am asked all the time what is my secret and I say there is no real secret except for passion and watering.
I do have one advantage over most...I have a super green thumb but my success is not without 3 rain barrels (soon to add more) and lots of love.
If you not committed to watering, then your plants really have no choice but to wilt and shrivel up. Now overwatering is worse so learning what each plant needs to survive is part of being a gardener. Harsh words but you would not forget to drink your water, right?
So now that I have your attention, did you water your plants today?
Happy gardening.

My magnificent Magnolia which started out as a stick in a pot for $5 4 years ago! I know what you are wondering...why did I put it next to the deck so close? Well, the tag was all wrong and since it was barely alive I did not know that the Jane Magnolia tag was wrong because I bought the other Jane with the same tag for $5 that day too.
