How do I glaze, or distress, my turquoise door?

Question

I just painted this metal door turquoise, and I do love the color, I'd just like to time it down just a tad. I am looking online trying to learn how to do this, I've never  used any type of glaze, or chalk paint, ect. 
I have whitewashed my brick fireplace, using white paint and water, but Im thinking this calls for completely different  materials. The door is metal, and the turquoise paint is a latex paint.

If you are planning to use a dark glaze, you will want to seal the door first. Apply the glaze after sealing the door. You can make your own paint glaze with a product called Floetrol. You can apply the glaze with a brush, let sit a few moments and wipe off. There are plenty of You tube videos on 'how to' You can apply an antique wax in the same manor. Is this an interior or exterior door?

From the picture you have provided, I think it's really pretty just as it is. It looks cheerful, welcoming and clean but in my humble opinion, distressing and glazing will make it look old, dirty, abused and in need of fresh paint! I suspect maybe you feel it's a little too bright because you aren't used to it. Before you rush into doing anything else to it, my suggestion would be to live with it, as is, for a month or two and see if the color doesn't grow on you more. Besides, if it is a door you use often, it will most likely get *naturally* distressed and aged with time. ;) If this were my door, the only other thing I would do to it is look into purchasing one of those vinyl decals that say something like, 'Welcome' or 'Welcome Home' and apply it to the flat middle section to the left of the door knob.

Go to Beyond the Screen Door. She has a great tutorial and I did just want you want to do with my back door, same color too! I did out front door in a yellow and toned it down in the same fashion. It is not hard ,just takes practice. You use paint extender to make the glaze from a darker paint. For my turquoise door I used brownstone paint color from Sherwin Wiliiams. Good luck!

Try preparing your door with semi-gloss Minwax Poly. There are paint-on and wipe-on versions. In order to keep your door looking fresh and bright, only glaze in the inside corners of the panels, so it will look like natural aging has occurred on the door. This will give you depth and texture, without needing to do the whole door. Start with using your glaze in small amounts directly in the corners of the panels and wipe towards the center. So you are basically moving from each corner towards the opposite corner. Then if you like you can lightly swipe over the middle of the panel, but I'm guessing the corner enhancement will be enough. And use a lighter colored glaze. Martha Stewart at Home Depot offers nice colors. To best preserve the effect, you would want to put another coat of poly over the finished door.

You can use Annie sloans wax in dark. Or by minwax paste wax and add dark stain to get the desired effect.

did you paint directly over metal white door how did you prep your door? I'm confused if it's new never been painted medal door do you have to sand it then prime it then paint it? Or just paint over new whit medal door with desired color?
