Paint your file cabinets!! I did this one with royal designs rockin' roses stencil; super easy and cheap (since I all ready had the stencil -be sure to poly after paint to protect the art)

Thanks for the idea, but I'm still hoping for more.

If you can get hold of some empty printer paper boxes, they would make good substitutes for cabinets and/or drawers. Since they're the same size as (regular 8.5 x 11) paper, files should fit right in -- the most efficient use of the box would be to stack the files in the short end (width), standing the files up (rather than laying them down flat in the box). This enables you to see better what's in there as well. And since the boxes are pretty sturdy (they hold quite a bit of weight), they can be stacked. Also, if you get the lids, you have a great dust-free filing system. You can cover the boxes easily with paper or fabric or wallpaper or whatever else you want to decorate them with. Good Luck !

  • I use free xerox paper boxes from work. Covered them in contact paper.
