Wooden front door - need a storm door?

We have an 1830's house with a wooden front door and a storm screen door. Can I remove the storm door or do I need it for our harsh Maine winters? I'd also like to paint the wooden one - what color for a yellow house? Thanks

  • I would suggest that you keep the storm door. If you do not like the fact its hiding the wood door, purchase a all glass door that will only frame around the existing wood door. But the wood door offers no to very little insulation to that area and you will see that area much cooler in the winter without it.

Hi Sharon! Could you upload a photo of your door? That will make it easier for other hometalkers and myself to give you better answers and ideas! You can add photos by clicking the upper right drop arrow and select "edit" (see screenshot). Hope this helps! :)

@Hannah V I posted the picture on another Q & A. Looking for help in what will happen when I removed the storm door and holes it will leave on the door frame/metal siding. Thanks.
