DIY Liquid Laundry Soap

by Andrea Fabry
I used to rely on conventional laundry detergents to clean my clothes until discovering the magic of borax and washing soda! Now I combine these powders with all natural soap and make either a powder or liquid version.
The liquid version is my preference for cold water loads. I like the powder for my hot loads of sheets and towels. Both recipes work great for HE machines.
I even make my own washing soda. All you need is baking soda and an oven! You'll learn more about DIY washing soda in this article.
Borax is cheap and accessible and offers an excellent cleaning boost. (Borax may not be suitable for grey water systems.)

@Sandra Tenas @Hannah V Here are a couple of options: Add an essential oil that you love (lavender or lemon for instance) to the rinse cycle. You can also infuse white vinegar with lemon peels for a week and then add the strained vinegar to the rinse cycle. One other option: Add a wet washcloth sprinkled with some essential oil to the dryer. Eventually you learn to love the fresh smell of nothing. Sounds crazy I know. My kids like the smell of peppermint and it seems to hold through the dryer pretty well.
