Don't BOTH do the same exact thing?? Trying to understand why the "Fan Canopy (inserts to Ceiling Fan) from the Lutron MIR-LFQMT-WHMaestro 300 Watt Dual IR Dimmer and Fan Speed Control Switch ( http://www.amazon.com/Lutron-MIR-LFQTHW-WH-Maestro-300-watt-Control/dp/B0017O71MI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1406146596&sr=8-1&keywords=MIR-LFQTHW-WH) has a benefit over the LFQTHW Lutron Maestro IR Single-pole 1A FanSwitch, 300W Dimmer w/ Wallplate and Transmitter ( http://www.amazon.com/MIR-LFQTHW-Lutron-Single-pole-Wallplate-Transmitter/dp/B004HGWRUY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1406146596&sr=8-3&keywords=MIR-LFQTHW-WH ) ??
NO Fan Canopy, so how does this work differently? I turn either light or fan from wall switch or remote, same as other pic that has Fan Canopy
why does the "Fan Canopy" (module on the right) better then NOT having it?? Does it provide a better function than the other pic that does NOT have a Fan Canopy?

  • Well cowboy, you got me? What does the manufacture suggest about what control to use? While they are both rated at 300 watt there must be something to offer that the other does not. When your saying fan are you talking about built in cooling on the switch? Not quite sure about fan canopy. Please explain a bit more.

    • @Jim G That device is from what I found is used to control several up to 4 fans with just one switch. While the one without the canopy can only control a single fan. Each fan gets their own canopy control but the single wireless switch can operate them all at the same time. http://www.smarthome.com/6627WH/Lutron-CM-FQ1-Maestro-Fan-Canopy-Module-White/p.aspx

Ok, called Lutron and the technician states ALL Lutron Maestro units MUST have the Canopy to work. She said the part # you can order WITHOUT the canopy cannot work without the canopy, BUT one room in my house (my TV room) is a Lutron WITHOUT CANOPY, but it works just fine. NO REMOTE, but turns light and ceiling fan on INDEPENDENTLY and with dimmer / speed controls. SO, that said, I am just buying the model that comes WITH the Fan Canopy (same cost, actually $2 less!). Thanks all. I'll follow up after the electrician installs the remote (replaces a cheaper Honeywell we just had installed!!!!)
