What is up with this bean plant?

As I was picking beans, I saw this stem on one plant that is totally white--an albino bean stem? It is part of a normal plant otherwise. Anyone know what this is about? I have never seen this before. Thanks for any info you can give.

Albinism happens in plants, just as it does in animals. Your bean can't make chlorophyll, so would starve on its own, but it is connected to the root system of the other beans, and is stealing nutrition from them. See: http://www.wildflower.org/expert/show.php?id=5532

      Sir,

Can this term albinism be used in plants?

What kind of beans are these? Don't look like any of my bean plants, w/ or w/o albinoism.

Looks like the Contender variety of green beans.

@Joy Derouen Not sure what variety...just bought bulk seed at a local greenhouse--it wasn't labeled specifically. But they are doing well!

It never ceases to amaze me the things plants will do. Some of the convoluted shapes of the produce from my veggie garden over the years still has me laughing when I think of them. Looks like you have some healthy bean plants with a single white stem of leaves. Sort of like my friend with a white streak in her black hair....lol

@Judy Yeah, I guess it is! :) The beans are really producing this year...luckily the bunnies did not eat too many and the deer stayed away--last year, they decimated them.
