My wood floors are just a month old and lost shine in places. Can anyone tell me what I can use to help bring the shine back.?

  • If the shine is gone, its sounds as though the finish was poorly installed. Many coats of sealer are required to maintain a glossy finish. If its getting dull already (less scratches) you need to get the person that did them and have it corrected. If these were pre-finished floors there are some things you can try. Bono makes wood floor polish systems that you can purchase at the big box stores. Their products are used by pros all over the country. Even with solid wood furniture, the finish can be brought back using their products. However ideally a new finish needs to be done. This requires a surface sanding using a screen sander followed by a good cleaning and several coats of new polyurethane finish. You need to stay off those floors if you go that route for several days. It needs to harden.

Hi Marsela! Could you upload a photo of your floors? That will make it easier for other hometalkers and myself to give you better answers and ideas! You can add photos by clicking the upper right drop arrow and select "edit" (see screenshot). Hope this helps! :)

I use regular mop n glow in the blue bottle on my hardwood and laminate floors and they come out looking pretty good for 60 year old floors. The laminate is a little piece by the stairs when we broke down the wall and door leading to the upstairs and they come out just as nice. Just don't use mop n glow for wood floors, for some reason it leaves a film on them and they look horrible. I posted pics of mine here on hometalk, go take a peek and see how nice they turned out :)
