Do you like it? Do you not like it? Do you have an ecological alternative? Is it the best thing since sliced bread, or could you live without it?

    Way to expensive to use for such a short life span. They are ok if your home is always clean. With our dog we tried them but would fill up before we even got part way around the kitchen alone. I use blue micro cloths used for cleaning and dusting. Simply roll them around our kitchen sponge mop and have at it. Once dirty, take them off, rinse out in sink. And in the laundry it goes. No waste.

    I used a swifer for awhile but it is expensive to buy the products specifically for it...I bought a rubbermade that has washable scrubby cloths and I can use the cleaner of my choice... I love it!

    I use only the Bellawood Hardwood floor cleaner on my wood floors, with a reusable microfiber pad mop. No dry cloth/dustmop I've ever found will get the dust, and swiffer ended up just pushing it around after a few passes, so it was a waste of money. I just wash out the microfiber pad in my sink and it's ready for the next use. If you're talking the wet swiffer mop, the cleaner is very harsh smelling and it left streaks on my dark ceramic tile and made it look worse than before cleaning.

    I agree with Woodbridge - I have two large dogs and that swifter wouldn't last. I have tile so I use a steam cleaner which really cleans - it doesn't just drag the dirt around.

    I have hardwood floors and used the swiffer when I too realized I was working hard to keep the dog hair on the pad, then I would keep my hand vac handy and use the swiffer to pull it into a pile I could vacuum.I finally bought microfiber pads because they are washable and can be used to dust or with a light cleaner for those dirty days. Mine is made by Bruce and I got it at Lowe's in a kit with 2 pads and the mop.

    We had one for a while but it got hard to find the refills so we quit using it. It was ok but it does not replace mopping. It is good between more intensive cleanings though. Too bad the stores around here stopped carrying the refills.

    I have had three. Not well made, Used daily, but no harsh treatment, however, the swiffer's plastic parts constantly break and you have to buy another in order to use up the products you have purchased. have purchased my last one and went back to broom and wet mopping. Hope this helps.

    I never invested in one, I have a sponge mop for small issues and a cotton string mop for real mopping....NOTHING beats a corn broom lightly misted with my ironing spray bottle for coralling the dog hair before mopping....

    I have had a swiffer since the beginning...in fact, I am on my 3rd one. I love it. Keep in mind that it is not for heavy cleaning but just a touch up for those days when you want to tidy up the pathway through the house, but not a deep cleaning. It is just one of many tools I have that I like, but it is not something I can't live without.

    I'm with Sherrie on this one. I gave up on the Swiffers for a steam mop (on tile floors). Not only does it clean the floors, but it does it without chemicals...........just add water and allow steam to do the work.

    over 3/4 of my homes floors are either tile or hardwood. After a simple vacuuming we wipe down the floors with a damp small towel...that then goes into the washer to be used again. The swiffer mop was not very user friendly as the stick came in many sections and would be wobbly...plus the pads did not cover much ground. I can wipe about 50 to 75 sq feet with our towel method before I need to rinse it out. This rinsing is done in the sink so there are no drippy buckets to lug around.

    Chaya K, before the steam mop I had the scooba floor cleaner. It required only Clorox hard floor cleaner. It can be used on wood. However, I bought 7 bottles of it and have 4 quarts left because the steam mop cleaning is far superior and doesn't require anything but water.

    I have had every type of swiffer imaginable. There is a mop with a cloth that is much wider down in Florida that I use more than anything. It has cloth covers that you can wash. It may start with a B. I am a believer in using towels too. I think you can pick more up with a damp towel and then rinse. We use 2 buckets one for clean and one to dump dirty cloth in. We clean a ton of tile in Florida with condo rentals. We usually vacuum up the tile really good first. I have used towels on the swiffers too. They constantly break on us. I think a stainless steel handle would be a good idea.

    Guys, I am looking for a way to clean hardwood and tile floors without vacuuming and then mopping. I don't have time for the two step cleaning. I have a day job, ya know? I only moonlight as an unpaid house cleaner. :)

    I use a dry swiffer on my hardwood floors every other day. I love how it picks everything up. I used to use a dustmop and things just didn't stick to it enough. No problems with the swiffer. I've been using it since it came out.

    For everyday: dry microfiber cloth for hardwood-just a and vac when/where needed on tile. Once a week: spray bottle with water or cleaner with microfiber cloth for hardwood-damp mop or floor rag for tile.

    I have pets and the swifter gets used one to two times a week if I have the time, lol. It does do a good job of getting the dust bunnies and fur balls into a nice pile while catching the loose debris on the way. I use it more as a "fancy" broom rather than expecting the little cloth to actually pick up all of the "stuff"

    KMS and WOODBRIDGE..ditto. I cleaned homes for 20 years and found the very best was good cotton (not poly) towels wrapped around a mop or broom, whatever. You can dampen it, or leave it dry, or wet it for mopping , then throw it in the wash. You always have a clean mop. I hated when some of my ladies objected to my method and suggested using their sponge mop or spaghetti mop. So dirty! you wouldn't do that to your face if you wanted it clean. I usually won the tossup! Now that I have vinyl planking I have to make a bigger mop!

    We stopped using our wet swiffer a couple years ago because I was told (I took their word for it and haven't don't my own research) that the chemical in the cleaner were harmful to pets licking their paws and small children (both of which I have). We switched to a using a cloth floppy mop with vinegar water now to clean our hardwood/linoleum floors. Admittedly, we don't mop as often as we should but we do sweep frequently.

    i have an awesOme enviromentally sound o'cedar mop w/ a bottle/spray attachment that you fill yourself with homemade(my preference-vinegar-water w/ a little ivory dishsoap) or store bought cleaner. And it has a washable pad! Very GREEN for all us gardeners!!

I only moonlight as an unpaid house cleaner. :)" The only way I know of, and I've not used this product though I do love their steamer is the Bissell Steam and Sweep.... http://www.bissell.com/bissellsteam/ Personally I would think you'd have to use it daily otherwise there would be too much dust and possible pet hair to vacuum for such a small cleaner. I'd recommend vacuuming with your full size vacuum daily and mopping once a week or when needed. I have four long haired cats and that works for me.

    Got rid of the swiffer. My husband comes in with his boots on.(ok, I know I should have trained him better) Anyway, grit and small gravels just get pushed around with a swiffer. Actually the swiffer scratches my hardwoods when I try to use it. I have a dust mop with a thick pad that can be taken off and washed in the machine. (Libman from Lowes) It picks up much better than the swiffer. Hope this helps but each to his own.

    I love my Swiffer. It cleans so well. There is no way I would go back to using a mop that just spreads dirt around. @Crystal-2, our Dachsund use to lick the Swiffer off the floor after I mopped (just a small area). She lived to be 16 years old. So I don't think it's harmful. Our other dogs don't do this.

    It must be a Dachsund thing to lick the floors! To KMS, just enjoy the time you have with yours. Dachsunds are so lovable and good family dogs and I miss mine terribly. Since this is suppose to be about Swiffer, I will add that Heidi enjoyed her weekly fix of Swiffer!

    We like using Swifters to prep walls prior to painting. Grabs all those little dust balls and makes the finish much more smooth.

    After reading the comments, I still say get a swiffer! I love mine. Of course it is not going to be much good on a floor where enough dirt is tracked in to scratch the hardwood! (A little man training needed here.) Nor is it going to stop pets from continuing their messes. What it is designed for is a quick fix to a small mess. I have found that it will also serve well with more intense cleaning if you are doing that at the time. But for that quick, "run the mop over the spots" cleaning, you cannot beat a swiffer!

    I use one of the original Swifters (wet pad) in my RV. Very small spaces and I really like it. However, at home on a polyvinyl tile floor in my large kitchen, I use a Steam Mop. The best way ever to clean tile of any kind.

    i love my swiffer! as an avid recylopath with an over all "save the planet" mentality, i had major moral struggles with using a disposable cleaner (i have even trained the cat to use recycled newspaper instead of litter to reduce my landfill contribution). my compromise on the easiest way to clean the floors (hardwood, tile, linoleum etc.) and not throwing out the equivalent of a baby diaper every time i did it, was to start using the dry floor wipes for wet floor mopping. they hold up just fine, and don't have the extra absorbents and plastic like the regular ones do... now if swiffer would just start using recycled products to make these wipes-my conscience could be completely cleared...

    @Anna K We use a damp towel for our tile and hardwood...very lightly damp with warm water. When we are done we launder it. Easy breezy and no waste or chemicals

    I used to have a Clorox that's somewhat equivalent to a Swiffer. I too hated the toss away wipes so I quite using it. Then I found another brands washable wipes on clearance so I bought them and cut them to fit my Clorox. By the looks of the Swiffer you just tuck in the wipes so any clothe, as Kevin mentions would work. Dollar stores often have good deals on microfiber clothes.

    I love my Swifter. Beats down on hands and knees scrubbing. I cut a micro fiber rag to the size of my mop and use that sometimes with a detergent and keep wringing it out when it gets dirty instead of using the wet ones you have to buy. I use those also, but they are pricey. I use the wet ones on hard wood as well as ceramic tile and it works just great.

    I too use a small towel (shop towels size hubby picks up at Sams). But I love the lemon smell of the swiffer wet pads. I used on this AM in my bathroom! So easy to get around in those tight areas!

    @KMS Woodworks That's what i do too. I use bar towels or anything cotton , not polyester, throw in the washer..I always have a clean mop or damp mop! I also have tucked a towel in the swiffer holes for quick dusting or damp mop , sounds like we are all pretty close on the same page. Now my Mother inlaw....iicckkkk has a sponge mop, It is sooo grody!

    Micro fiber mops. The pads can be washes or hand washed. I use them for tile and wood and everything else. I use them to clean walls, base boards. I have a bucket of warm water, roll them up and squeeze the water out. And wash, I have another one to dry the floor, on wood floors I use a dry one and either a wood floor cleaner or a spray bother of water lightly mist the floor and dry. Easy. Hand wash, or machine then hang dry. I have a cleaning business and these are heaven. Okay a cleaners kind of heaven but I consider them a cleaners heaven. Cheap ones at Walmart are the cheapest I found. I have about 20 of them.

    At Dollarama you can get the reusable microfiber pads for a dollar. The amount of dust and cat fur that those pick up are amazing! I can do my whole apartment (hardwood floors) multiple times. Then just throw it in with your washing (or hand wash) and reuse.

    I have mine and LOVE it. They work fabulous but it can get expensive changing out their special cloths. I just reuse mine and clean it by hand and change it only every so often now. Works just fine! They are especially fabulous for under beds and sofas where you have hardwood flooring. And a must for pet hair cat homes! :)

    As a house cleaner for other people for years, I love them. I vaccum then I mop the floors, then go back over them with a dry swiffer and boy, the dirt and hair that settles back on the floor. . .it amazes me everytime, especially if there's animals in the house with fur. Just picks it right up. Flip the swiffer sheet over and get a little extra use from the other side to !

    If you are really fugal you can hand wash these cloths and hang to dry so they can be re-used. Dish soap and rinse. You can also do this with swifters dust cloths. That way you can re-use them until they fall apart. The micro fiber mops, the pads come off and you can rehash them. But they also carry a mop at Bed Bath and Beyond that works like a Like a Swifter, it has a place for your bottle. It has a detachable micro fiber mop head you can take off and wash. It is about $25.00.

    I love my Swiffer mop too but I only wish it had a wooden handle. I sometimes really want to push down on the mop and the flimsy handle doesn't feel as if it can take it. I don't have the spray type, but I do use the wet pad and the dry cloth and have used microfiber cloths in my Swiffer but sometimes the cloths are too bulky or too short to fit properly. I have also used the dry cloths with the mop to wipe my walls free of any cobwebs or dust.

    I'm the type who gets on hands and knees to wash my floor, but I bought one anyway for inbetween washes and absolutely love it. I have a cat and what the duster thing picks up is amazing. I use the duster first then the wet cloth for the final. Have not been on my hands and knees much lately. One of my smarter purchases, and with a small price.

    With as many different mops and wipers out there, no need to ever get on your hands and knees...that is just punishing yourself. I will even wet down a small shop type rag with vinigar (I keep worn kitchen towels, etc in the washroom) and "walk mop" my kitchen. That is using the foot to push it around. Folks, when you get in your 70s, you learn to be VERY creative! It works really well!

    I have a swiffer but I bought fleece remnants at the fabric center and made washable pads. I got approximately 12 pads from a 5/8 of a yard of fabric, no sewing. I also made fleece dusters for my swiffer duster.

    I have a hernia and can't use vacuum cleaner any more. Changed out carpets for laminate wood floors. Use the swifter all the time but had to get some way to get up the last little bits (used dust pan or hand held vac). l got the new Swifter with the tray and I love it even more. I just dust and I am done...it even used the reusable cloths I used on the regular Swifter.

    If you have a Big Lot`s by you then check out the MR. Clean version. I have one were you wash the cleaning pad and make your own cleaning spray. It is the best.

    Go to the Dollar store and stock up on wash cloths. They fit great and can go straight into the washer. I bought different colors than what I use for the rest of the house. I am going to add elastic so they stay on a little better. Yes I like it.

    I love my Swifter, I like the pads, but I have to say that they get expensive very quickly. I've heard of people using cloth and washing, but I'm not sure I'm up to that, probably keep buying the pads. I honestly think they get the floor cleaner than a regular mop since you can SEE how much dirt is coming off the floor.

    It's amazing how much hair and small debris a Swiffer picks up. I like going barefoot, and it makes it nicer, with all it picks up. You can certainly sweep first, but, you'll be amazed at how much you didn't get with a broom. I also have the wetjet version, and use it for spot cleaning and for quick mopping. For heavy grime, I use a steam mop.

    I have the swifter however, I use old towels, cut to fit, instead of buying the pads. A damp one works well to collect hair and dust. I let them dry (outside) then run them through 'air dry' on the dryer to get all the hair off before tossing in the washer with other rags.

    I get packs of wash cloths from Walmart and use them. They work very well with just a spritz of water. I keep a small pail in the laundry room to toss them into. Most of the time they are pretty nasty (we have dogs) so I wash them separately with Mr Clean.

    A micro fiber mop is cheaper in the long run. If your using this for wood floors, just misting the bottom of the mop with water is cheaper and easier. Don't over saturate just a little mist with water and floors clean up nicely.

    Love mine. After the pad gets all covered with dirt and dog hair (half way through the kitchen floor) I take the pad off and turn it over - reattach. Finish the floor with the other side. I do the same with the Swifter floor wet floor pads. This time I turn it over and wet down the other side. Save half the price of both type pads.

      @Mary Beth Hagstrom I flip mine over too. I LOVE my Swiffer because I never have to small or handle a dirty mop! I will also use a throw away rag sometimes with mine...every household should have a box of rags that can be thrown out after use!

    I hardly ever use mine--I have the vacuum Swiffer now (not wonderful, but easier than pulling out the vacuum cleaner)...either way, you can use $ store disposable cloths that work the same way, or buy a pack of cheap microfibre cloths. It seems to me that the $ store even has a knock off handle/head now similar to the Swiffer.

    i have a swiffer mop that you use batteries with and a solution that you buy for it...i love it! i live in a senior apartment building and everything is carpeted accept the kitchen and bathroom...i have arthritis throughout my body and my back is the worst, so the swiffer is great for me...i am for anything that makes my life easier...

    I use the dry pads for my Swiffer every day as I have two American Eskimo dogs that shed a lot.. & it's great for picking up their fur. The wet pad for cleaning my floors doesn't seem to be thick enough to get into the grout on the kitchen floor though.

    I love my Swiffer. I use microfiber cloths on the mop head. They are washable and reusable. I save $ by not buying those disposable refills.

    I use a wet washcloth that I zap in the microwave for 15 seconds instead of the disposable refills. Works great like a steam mop!

    Hello, I use the swiffer wet and dry, the dry cloths act like a duster, I have a dog, so it grabs the loose hair. I use the wet cloths on it between my weekly cleaning of my floor to clean small messes up. I love it, I can toss out the sheets after use. It's compact and easy to store as well. it saves me time and the cost is worthwhile to me. I would have a hard time parting with it.
