I received a shrimp plant as a gift. I have no idea how to care for it. Help!!! The photo is a stock photo...not my plant. Mine is leggier and looks more like a small tree.

Mine does not look very good during the winter months, gets a bit leggy, but now it is beautiful. I have it in the back yard, it gets morning sun and it looks great. I have not done anything special for it this year because we have had a lot of rain this summer . Make sure it does not dry out... Good luck and enjoy your plant they are beautiful.

Living in San Antonio TX., I have a shrimp plant for years now and I have transplanted it about 5 times and moved to different places now. It does great in full sun. In the winter I trim/prune it back to about 6 inches from the ground. Come spring it full and beautiful again. I use drip watering in the garden where it is about once a week. Easiest plant ever.

Thanks for the answers, but I'm still hoping for more ideas. I live in Illinois so it will have to come inside in winter

looks like you will need a grow light inside during winter months

These plants are sometimes trained as standards, so that is perhaps what you have. They are relatively easy to maintain as a houseplant (you will certainly have to bring yours in in Illinois when the weather cools) as long as you can provide enough light. Drench the soil, then allow it to dry out before watering again.

This is my plant. Should I cut it back? If so, how and when?

@Deborah Your plant has been specifically pruned and trained to have that shape.
