I would like to take out my old 3x3 shower and replace it with a new one built with tile and maybe a seat in it, do I call a plumber to build it or a carpenture? Please share picture of your bathroom.

Definitely a re-modeller/carpenter! A plumber would tell you the same thing! Most re-modellers will do the plumbing for you at the same time.
  • Kathy is right you call a carpenter but ask for references and pictures! Ask to see insurance too. Get everything in writing and do not assume anything. Most reputable contractors will have a plumber they use and they will have estimates and costs in writing. they will not be afraid or hesitate to show you their credentials.. Have at least 3 carpenters come out and then check the internet and google the name to find out if he has anything and check your local courthouse-many are online now so you can do searches. do not mean to scare you but at least once a week I hear about someone being taken in my subdivision.

Thanks to everyone for all the advice and help. The garden frog was most helpful and I will take this advice, I just wasn't sure where or how to get started. God Bless You and Thanks a million!
    • @Pat Cobb good luck to you. just remember if the contractor is a sweet talker and you feel so compelled to hire him-stop. I know from experience that those smooth talkers who say 'if you hire me now' and pressure you before you check him out-BEWARE. I have found the scam artists know how to make you feel so excited and will offer you the world. I hope I didn't write too much. We were just taken by a smooth talking contractor a couple years ago and lost a great deal of money and he was soooo likeable and he promised the world. Just my 2cents worth

Pat...you should try Angie's List for your contractor. It is very cheap, like only 3 to 4 dollars a month for her services and they are well worth finding the right people. Especially here in NC. Everyone here thinks they are contractors, don't let them rip you off!! It is www.angieslist.com.

You could always call an Interior Designer. They can draw up plans, find contractors, order materials and keep everything going on schedule and in budget.

When my nephew did this to his 1960s home, he first used a plumber to get that part finished and then he called in a tile man who put in the foundations and necessary flooring for the shower and tiled from shower floor to ceiling! It is stunning!
