Growing grass seed, and forgot to rake first.

I forgot to rake the area where I spread grass seed. I raked it in a another spot before spreading and watering and it's doing great. Can I rake it now and then water it? I just want it to be able to settle into the ground. I am out of grass seed now, and can't afford to buy more at this moment in time.

Tried something new this year while spreading grass seed in a hard to grow area. I threw out my grass seed, then covered it lightly with top soil. It's the best stand I have every got!

I am familiar with your area of the country (my sister lives in Bremerton) so I believe you can rake it in if it hasn't started to germinate. Cover it w/ straw or soil and keep it moist at all times and it should be fine. The key is to get it up before your weather changes. Good luck.
  • Just rake it lightly. But its not critical if you do not. It will just take a bit longer for the seed to develop the root structure into the soil. You will need to be a bit more careful when it begins to grow.

Thank you all. I did rake it a gently and fenced it off so nobody will disturb it. It was a total "doh!" moment for me!
