June 6, out of the blue, hubs says ..we should do the floor and carpet, now! huh? Well who am I to say , but but but...so in overdrive he had a friend agree to come the next Monday morning. However , to add to the trauma, we had planned on going to Lincoln City Oregon, (ocean) that Friday to sunday. So in overdrive I picked out the color, picked upp the planking, went to the ocean and Sunday night, frantically moved stuff all around. Then the carpeting , I picked it out on Monday morning! By Thursday everything Joe was doing was done, and we still had to put the house back together.Still at it! And boy did we get rid of a lot of STUFF! Anyway , here are a couple of pictures, and I THANK YOU Kevin for steering me to this product! Joe totally agreed with you, this is way better than laminate!
Yes i Agree, everything in living room is beige...and I am NOT a beige person, I did have a mottled teal carpet which I loved, but time for new. So I have to get some color in here, but that will come. I just had to jump on the bandwagon before it was withdrawn, know what I mean?
However , I notice, everything shows on "wood" floors, specks, crumbs etc! So I am going to read the swiffer thread!
This was taken from the kitchen in which we also installed the planking.

PS this is a double wide mobile home, 1976. There was still a remnant of the yellow flooring hiding that every mh must have had back then! yeow!

It's beautiful and very refreshing! That's how our hubs roll-haha. Glad it worked out so well for you.

Ha ha Me too. thanks. I have almost recuperated!
  • Bernice H Bernice H on Jun 20, 2012
well, I read the swiffer thread, nope not for me. I like my way of wrapping an ALL COTTON towel, wet, damp or dry , around a broom or old mop head or spaghetti mop, (tuck it in where spag mop would go),. , then toss in washer! Always a clean mop and no cost. And I can see I will need it more frequently, but that is the way it goes.

Bernice, your new floor looks beautiful! Congratulations!

Bernice, that is a great idea about using a towel. I will have to remember that, we are getting laminate floor this summer. I hate buying throwaways for the swiffer, so I never use it.

Your floors look great! I recently saw some vinyl planking and was very impressed...so much nicer/better than I had thought it would be. I guess I figured it just be like my 70ish kitchen linoleum for some reason.

Good work. Thanks for the update. And I love the towel on the mophead idea. Why didn't I think of that?

    GREAT JOB!!!
  • Bernice H Bernice H on Jun 21, 2012
Thanks everyone, it was a big job, especially for me, I had expected to act like i was 40 after surgery, and it didn't happen, so I was dragging a lot! Hey Steve, I am sure you have a lot of good ideas. Re floor mop, Just be sure you have enough towel or cloths to make it generous enough so that the metal part doesnt bang on the floor, or is too wimpy to do a good job. @ WoodBridge..what's next? I guess trying to get hubs to wash the exterior windows. There is always something to put that chore on hold. I could think of lots of things to do, but this is an old mh and we cant see making it worth it. We don't own the land. Well, ok, as I sit here and think, NEXT is getting scatter rugs and a hall runner....to cover all this flooring!!!! I know, I know...crazy lady! And I would love a bigger deck...but I know that is NOT gonna happen! Maybe paint the ceilings, yuupp. @Crystal..actually there is a vinyl sheet flooring that looks like wood or planking but is "sheet flooring" (my words.).... I didnt like it as well and it would have been more work.

Hey Crystal, I am originally from New London Connecticut! Now that is a long way from here!
  • Bernice, do you remember a restaurant called the Sea Horse? Not sure if it was in New London or Mystic. Most of my wife's family was from there. They owned that place up to a few years ago. They just sold their marina last year located in New London.

When you go to work, Bernice, you go to work! The new floors look awesome.
  • Bernice H Bernice H on Jun 21, 2012
Thanks Douglas..I am quite pleased, it was fast work deciding and doing! Not the best way to get things done, but I had to get moving or maybe the "offer "' would have been postponed...again! @Woodbridge...small world! I grew up in New London, I moved from there in 62 when I joined the air force, and have only been back once in 93. But I still miss the smell of the ocean and seaweed, the peep frogs, crickets and smell of flowers at night in the humidity! The fresh FRESH fish and chips! wow! Oh and the lightning bugs!!!!!! Are there still lightning bugs? No, re Sea Horse, but I remember crabbing with strings and bait in Mystic and other places. This marina , did they have an employee named ?David Bergamot? And Ocean Beach, it was "sooo big " as a kid and teen, in 93 it actually was no bigger than a strip mall, how our memories fool us! Did you spend much time In Connecticut? @Douglas, have you installed vinyl planking ? I believe they are much quieter than laminate too. IMHO
  • I get up to mystic every year to visit wifes family. As far spending a lot of time. Wife bought a family plot there so eventually will be there a long time. lol. Her aunt owns the only remaining farm in Mystic just out of town. Last name Doughty. Wife's brother was stationed in the Coast Guard there about the same time you were. And what is really funny he now lives in Seattle WA. Once coast to the other. Whole family was quite involved with Boy Scouts there as well. Their old marina was the base for the sea scouts for many years.

I lived just up the street in Quaker Hill..right over the Coast Guard academy, maybe he is the guy guard I kissed who was on guard duty..just a tease, that's me! So you bought some long term real estate! With an ocean view? lol I do miss those lightning bugs!

Bernice H, Swifter, NO! Read the following link for cleaning floors. This thing really works and lasts for years. Wet or Dry, wood or tile. I love this thing for quick pickup. http://www.cooking.com/products/shprodde.asp?SKU=314586#axzz1yXJ1tnHK.

Sherrie S, thank you so much for this information!!! I love the regular broom from Casabella as it is the broom I use at my house. I have never seen the one you mentioned, but will now be looking for that one too. : 0

Leida R, you are welcome. When I bought mine years ago I also bought the refill. I still have the refill. This is a great product.

my Swiffer sits in the garage...I haven't used it in years. I now use the Rubbermaid Reveal and I can't say enough good things about it. Swivel head and reusable pad...love it.

@Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com Hi!! I was just rereading this post, and saw our comments on New London , Mystic CT. Hubs and I were on Bing maps last night, for some reason we started looking for my old stomping grounds in Waterford, Quaker Hill, New London, Mystic, etc. And here I AM REREADING OUR conversation tonight by accident! whoo hoo..maybe one of us is going back there for some reason? Have you been back recently?
  • Planning to go to Mystic next month with wife. Her aunt has a couple hundred acre farm just outside of town. We bring the horse and they ride to the beach. If you go back my wife's family used to own the sea horse sea food place in Mystic. Great place to vacation at. Lots of great history and love the food!

@Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com wow! coincidental! so YOU are the one going back? I miss the ocean access so much I cant even begin to tell you. After I left New London to join the Air Force, I was stationed in New Jersey at McGuire..so many hours from the beach, then California, so much traffic why bother. Then Japan and Okinawa..watch out for ocean crawlies and eaters, then Washington state, 5 hours from Oregon coast. This from a girl who was over looking the Thames river, took the bus to Ocean Beach every day every summer til childhood was gone. So breathe some salt air for me!! Where is Colonia located?
  • Bernice H Bernice H on Jun 12, 2013
@Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com yes the history is so plentiful and interesting. Not much history like it out here, because it was mostly settlers and Indians. We were looking at the names of towns and roads etc, many Indian names we don't have here, different tribes altogether. Brought back so many memories.
