Vintage Luggage Pet Bed Tutorial

Greetings vintage and pet lovers! Today I am going to demonstrate how to make a pet bed from an old suitcase. I say “pet” bed, but honestly, cats are attracted to these beds like no other. Cats love to get into suitcases and these can be place on beds, tables, dresses, cabinets anywhere that is up high and out of the way.
Thrift stores and Goodwill are a great place to shop for old luggage, but be aware that there are many makes and models that present challenges. The type featured in the photo above is by far the easiest and most practical for a pet.
Notice the metal piece that runs down the middle? Inside that is a long thin metal rod, similar to a stretched out coat hanger that holds the two pieces together.
When enough of the wire appears on the other end, grab with a pair of pliers and pull out. Wala, you now have two pieces of a suitcase, one for a pet bed and one for Vintage Suitcase Storage.
Click over to the blog to see how to attach the legs and make a cushion for your pet bed.
