Not so veiled. We are in real trouble if Washington doesn't figure out the "fiscal cliff" situation before the end of the year. Here is a nice little summary:
Becky H. I know my hubby strongly agrees and I'm guessing our son would also agree that the Commander in Chief should have served it the military before coming into office. Ofcourse both have served their country in the military.
Wow Steve. I didn't realize that. That's sad that none of them have served before! I know some think being a politician is serving ones country. And I'm sure at one time it was, but I don't

believe many of them serve in the true sense of the word. Most think we the people serve THEM!
As for having a woman president, I'm all for it IF she's the right woman for the job. I don't want a woman just to have a woman.
I also believe that our Commander in Chief should have served in the military...You must have that frame of mind before you send anyone overseas, or bring anyone home for that matter.
Well this is special - My LIKE click does no longer works on this post. I click LIKE and it doesn't register but takes me to Miss Cleo's pic. She is cute so I really don't mind seeing her.
Steve - Yes, those are some sobering stastics and it seems like we're just treading water. Sort of staying afloat but not making any significant progress toward reaching the shore line. We (my husband and I) have always thought we were part of the middle class but I'm pretty sure on paper we're right at the poverty line!! However, we're still fortunate to have our home and no one is starving so we're still better off than a lot of folks.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who are really struggling in this country, and have been for about 30 years. Middle class wages have been essentially stagnant, at best, since the early 80s. Not sure what the answer is, though, and I don't think either Romney or Obama have much of an answer either.
But aren't we supposed to just be laughing at your cute cat? This is all getting way too serious.
Glad you brought that link up Steve, I must have missed it before, but it's something we all need to think of this November. I knew about it, but just forgot. I need to start paying more attention to what's up again. I usually do, but I've been so busy with family matters lately, I've avoided politics. I wish the ads and news were only about the facts and not all the lies. Even more so I wish the politicians remembered ---they work for us--- not the other way around.
WELLLLLLLLL. . . . . apparently that isn't such an issue anymore!! But you're right. Any public office opens someone up to full disclosure about practically everything in their life, like it or not!! So, are you Canadian??
Ha. No, I am an American citizen, but born in Lebanon because my dad was working in that part of the world at the time. And there are so many reasons political jobs would be miserable.
Ya know.......when I was in school, we learned that any child born to one or more American citizens, no matter where they were at the moment, could determine which citizenship they wished to have when they attained their majority; at that time, the age was 21. They would also be considered to be natural born citizens, if they chose the US, since their parent(s) were citizens. I guess our Civics and history teachers were wrong...........or maybe my memories (nah! it couldn't be that!! 8-) )
I thought the same thing Becky. I mean, what about all the military kids or tons of other people who are working in the the gov't but living over seas. If your parents are American citizens it doesn't matter where you're born.
Steve, I think you're just trying to weasel out of your nomination!! But, I do understand - any job w/political strings puts one under the microscope!! NO THANKS!
As I understand it, the definition of natural-born is pretty vague and ill-defined. McCain was born on a base in Guam, I believe, but that didn't disqualify him because it's technically American soil. And I think my potential opponents would have a field day with my Lebanese birthplace, even if it's technically OK.
Poor Steve, it sounds like maybe you're a little unsure of your citizenship?? Are both your parents American citizens? I know you said you are an American citizen but WHERE you were born doesn't make any difference. You do vote, right?
First, I have to say that I find it hilarious that this thread is now at 100 comments (including this one). I am very confident of my citizenship. Nothing vague there. I am just talking about the requirement that the president be a "naturally born" citizen. That part is vague, and it caused a little stir in the last couple of years, as you may remember.
And I vote every chance I get. I even vote in off-off-off-year elections with nothing but city

and school board people and issues on the ballot. I have even changed party affiliation to vote in a primary.
Steve, according to the definition of naturally born citizen that was taught to us in public school, it was anyone born to American citizens (no matter the country they lived in at the time of your birth), or any person born within the US was automatically considered to be a natural born American citizen. I went to school with a guy who's father was in the military, consequently, he was born in Africa. We used to joke about which nationality he would choose when he became of age, since

he could declare himself a citizen of Africa or the US, and be considered to be a natural born citizen of either country. While many military personnel live on base, others do not. So, they are not born within US occupied or US owned military bases.
I think that's the definition that most courts have upheld at this point, but it's not actually defined in the constitution and has been interpreted in different ways over time.

And how is our Miss Cleo today Susan?
Steve, just for the record I think you're right about neither party having the answsers. That leave us w/what???
