How to Create a Chemical Free Home

I do always love cleaning with bleach and ammonia, but let’s face it–neither are the most earth-friendly, nor the safest for us. In an effort to create a chemical-free home for our little one who is on the way, I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite tips for making such a transition.
1. Wear house shoes in the house only. Our floors are hardwood, which tends to get dusty and dirty immediately after each cleaning, but removing our shoes at the doors help reduce the amount of dirt and dust we bring into our home.

2. Say no to pesticides. If you’ve made the switch to organic fruits and vegetables, then you understand the benefit to removing pesticides from your body. Do the same for your home by using natural alternatives such as vegetable-based soaps or cedar instead of moth balls.

3. Be green. Buy lots of houseplants which serve as natural indoor scrubbers to help remove harmful toxins from your home.

4. Let in the fresh air. Studies have found that the air inside your home is often more polluted than the air outside. Open your windows at least once a week and let in some fresh air!

5. Vacuum with a Hepa filter. Use a vacuum with a Hepa filter to help remove pollutants and chemicals from your carpets and upholstery.

6. Make the switch. Last but not least, make the switch from harmful chemicals to those that are green-friendly such as the Greenworks product line by Clorox or Seventh Generation. Stay tuned for an upcoming post on my favorite green-friendly products!
