Modern Floral Chair Makeover With Stencil

This Windsor style chair belong to my mother in college (it had an emblem lightly marked for her school) My grandparents kept the chair and used it as a knock-around office chair, their dog, Honey, had chewed the lower prongs and the front bar had been either chewed or sawed off. To say the least, the chair was borderline dumpster worthy. It had seen a long life of about 30 years, and I really wanted to give this chair one last shot!
First: Repairing the Chair


1. To fix the broken front bar, I sawed off the remaining little bits, and sanded it down as smooth as I could.


2. To repair the dog bites I used drywall plaster and a plaster knife to fill in the holes and missing parts. Some were really deep or big parts missing, so this needed two times over with the plaster (drying at least 4 hours in between)


3. Lightly sand off the varnish to give a little more grip to the paint.
Second: PAINTING!


Use a black spray paint to give the whole chair a solid base coat. This took me 3 coats of spray paint, and a 4th flipping the chair over the get the little bottom bits. Once the black paint is dry, tape off the edges for the white paint. (take your time taping… it will save you a lot more work in the end fixing the edges) It took about 4 coats of white paint to give it the solid enamel look. Wait until the paint is FULLY dry to remove the paint.
