Can I paint a fan globe?

I have a beautiful amber-colored arts and crafts light over my sink. Unfortunately, I have been unable to find a globe for the fan over our kitchen table which matches or coordinates with that light. Can I paint the fan's white school globe?

  • Sure, just remember if you do this to use spray paint. regular paint will prevent enough light from showing through. Also it will be darker in the room. Do not compensate by using a bigger bulb. Follow the size chart that is found in the area where the bulb screws into. Otherwise you will over heat, burn out bulbs faster and possibly start a fire.

Hi Donna! Could you upload a photo of your globe? That will make it easier for other hometalkers and myself to give you better answers and ideas! You can add photos by clicking the upper right drop arrow and select "edit" (see screenshot). Hope this helps! :)

yes you can. AC Moore sells the paint. It's an enamel and has a small picture of a wine glass on the bottle.

Linda is right, use paint for glass, it is transparent, it doesn't peel and lets the light through. AC Moore and other craft stores have it.
