I need help identifying this creature vine. It looks like a watermelon/cantaloupe vine with spikes on the vine and on the fruit. I need to know if it is harmful for my dog. I'm very curious and so are the neighbors.

Thorny cantaloupe/watermelon? What kind of vegetable or fruit is this?

I'm stumped, Geri. You may need to post an update as the fruit matures.

Geri, this is a Buffalobur Nightshade. It is very evil. It can be very harmful to your dog. Check this out : http://fireflyforest.net/firefly/2006/07/24/...

I live northeastern Oklahoma. I noticed this obnoxious weed in my garden last year. It completely took over my garden. Now they are back this year. I never seen them before until last year. I wish I knew where they come from. How do I get rid of this evil weed?

If they are where you can spray with glyphosate, Melisa, do so. If not, get a foam brush, dip it in the full-strength herbicide, and paint it on the invaders.

I have one of those, too. Thought it was a volunteer watermelon plant until it developed some NASTY spiked. It's going to be outta there after reading these comments.
