I'm in Central NJ and looking for a landscape designer to help me with my front yard's design. Any recommendations?

Try Parkers in Scotch Plains on Terrill road. They have lots of professionals there that can help. Take a few photos of your home at different angles. They can use them to help you design what you want for a fraction of the cost of having someone come out. And if you still need them, they do have folks that can help at the house. Been buying from them sense the 60's

Thank you! That's so funny! A friend of mine had also recommended Parkers as a must-visit nursery. I've been gardening for many years now but the deer that came with the new house have proven a very difficult challenge!

getting a pro to help with landscaping at the get -go helps prevent trouble later....the "right plant in the right space" concept will keep the invasive plants away and give room for trees to mature with out causing problems like clogging drain pipes or dropping branches on the roof. take a look at pictures of gardens/ yards and find your garden/ landscape style. new age/ country/ cottage/ urban/ veggie/ pond/ other water feature? grab a pad of grid paper, measure your property, note where underground utilities are located. note where existing trees and shrubs are living. note out buildings and where access to the house/ garage/ shed is located. next - note how the sun moves across the property- where is the am shade and where is the pm shade, and if you have deep shade- a shady spot that may only get 1-2 hours of sun- note that as well. if you have an area that water will puddle and sit for an hour or 2 after a rain, yup- note that area too. after all the plotting, make your list of needs and wants. THEN take your sketch to the nursery for the certified landscape designer to review and make recommendations- photos of the property help. ask to see the actual plant material...gather samples as to see a bit more of the whole picture.
