Shade for lamp? what kind?

I just got these lamps at gwill.. but the shade I have on hand bothers me. I know it is not right, but not sure what kind is needed. any suggestions?

What about an acordian like shape (ribbed), sand color, a little larger than the one shown?

I'd put a drum shade on it, assuming you want a more updated look to the lamps.

I'd try a shade a little larger & like Theresa said a drum shape would be good. But I think some soft color &/or fabric shade would help a lot. Maybe a soft bronze/chiffon or more dramatic play up the red instead. Good luck, have fun!

Because of the decoration on the base, I feel a pagoda shade would work really well.

Have you thought about a red shade? Maybe in one of those different shapes other than round that we are seeing these days (they are very interesting...some are wider than tall!! And I think the shade needs t be a tad larger...taller and wider. Another thought just hit me...why not get the right size shade and cover it in gold paper! BTW, these lamps are pretty enough to put some money into the right shade!

Thank you all..I took one of the lamps to a lighting store today and got professional help!! We tried several shades . I learned a lot. I finally realized I just was not used to the LAMP shape itself. I have had big Jar type for years that I keep spray painting. I am not used to a slim tall skinny look. We decided an off white in color and maybe a pagoda style would look good. They had none in the size needed , and I was glad because they were pricey. @Jeanette S 95$ yikes! and I needed 2? so I will keep looking. I learned it was the NECK that bothered me. It is tall and I kept thinking it should be covered, reminded me of a giraffe. I had been thinking a shade that comes down covering most of the neck, but she said no. the shade should just come to just about the bottom of metal part under the harp, and be sure you have the right size harp. We tried 8 and 9 inches and 8 was the best. I am also thinking a special finial would finish it off. I am just not used to ANYTHING skinny around here! ha

I think it might be because it's out of proportion to the table it's sitting on. It's too tall for it. If it were sitting on a large dresser or buffet it would look better. Also, I agree with Jeanette S about the red lamp shade. You can always paint a shade you find that you like but isn't the right color.

Oh my goodness, I think you are right!!!!!!!!!!! the lady did mention that, oh dear now what do I do? My chairs are right there, these are reading/task lamps. and the end tables are necessary, and cant be bigger or taller than they are. Yes at 4 A.m I can see what you are saying. So the fat shorter lamps have to come back in? I love these, but now not so much!! aacckk! Thank you @Michele Eures And I have no where to put them. And I have a thing for lamps~!

@Arlene White Stricker hahahahahaaaaaa What a hoot! NO no no they are not plastic curtains, tooo funny! I haven't seen plastic curtains since I had them in the 60-70's! hahaha NO these are Pier One, , tan sheer, burnouts..had them for years, they don't make them any more either. thanks for noticing.

Nooo problem...I can see They do look like plastic ...wow , that has been along time. Have you seen any ? Do they still make them? We were military..and moved every 2 years, so yes I had them , but that was before 1980.

I think that a drum shade shape would look nice as long as it was in proportion.

Don't think of the skinny giraffe neck, step back and look at the shape like a flower vase, and the shade will be the flowers. Both can bring beauty into the room. With that shape vase you probably would not cut flower short but extend the whole look with long stems. A vase was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the lovely bases.
