Mystery plant?

A friend of mine has this sort of jumbled planter which I think might be - or was - an herb planter. Do you think the purple flower might be anise hyssop? But the portion in the lower left corner, the green (bract?) is a mystery to me. I edited the picture to show a separate picture which is a portion of the planter which is sort of cup-like. I'm stumped.
Could it be Anise hyssop??

No, that is Monarda. Anise has a long thin purple flower also, but not near as showy. Monarda smells strange when you crush a leaf. Sometimes it's called O'sage Tea.It grows wild in Central Texas and there are many slight differences. It grows from near white to greenish white to pale pink and all the way to the beauty you see here.

Myrna thanks for taking time to post! I've asked for a better photo of the planter but I'll bow to your greater knowledge! I'm just beginning to learn more about herbs as my knowledge is currently limited to what I use for cooking. I am hoping to use a lot of healing herbs...next week I should be ready to make oil of oregano!

Myrna is correct, that is Monarda punctata, spotted horsemint. If you are interested in its medicinal properties, see: http://www.eattheweeds.com/monarda-punctata-bergamot%E2%80%99s-bud-2/
