I have painted a solid color,then wiped a darker color into corners or wherever it looked good.

I too like this method, but I would use less of the darker color...it just makes it look neater to use less.

i'm with you jeanette....if you are using paint instead of glaze, you can take off excess with water on a rag....works great...
