Simple Steps to Painting Steps

My steps in the garage, leading into the house needed some attention in a bad way. While we were doing some other minor updates to clean the garage out I decided to tackle the most used walkway in the house and add a little interest besides using just a solid color.
This is the before. Not very pretty.
This is the before...yuck is all I can say. Unfortunately my guests will use this entrance sometimes, so something had to be done.
The other edge was painted black as well as a strip over the base coat called Aged beige.
These are the finished steps.
This is the after. After all the paint was dry, for at least 24 hours I used a clear protective coat so that clean up is easy.

That looks great. Even with your clear protective coat, how hard is it to keep it clean. AND how well is the paint wearing? Are these steps used daily, and about how often? I wonder if I could paint the steps inside my split foyer? I have 3 cats and a dog who go up and down them many times a day. And myself, of course, but I don't have claws on my feet. :-)
