Who wakes up everyday with a spotless bedroom, kitchen and living room? No one. Clutter and uncleanliness will definitely stress you out, so for your personal happiness, it’s worth keeping things as organized as possible around the house.
Here are 7 simple habits that lead to a clean and calm home even when life gets crazy:
1. Use Two Laundry Hampers to Sort Clothes

Time Commitment: A trip to the store for a second hamper

To make life easier when it’s time to actually do the laundry, use two hampers: One for colors and another for whites. This little trick can save you 5-10 minutes every time you do laundry because you can skip the sorting step!

2. Load the Dishwasher Before Bed

Time Commitment: 15 Minutes

Waking up to a sink full of dishes is a sure-fire way to start the day off on the wrong foot. Instead, try this: Every night before you head to bed, run the dishwasher. This will save you time and frustration the next night when it’s time to make dinner.

3. Make Your Bed Every Morning

Time Commitment: 5 Minutes

It may seem like a pain, but making your bed in the morning is a “keystone habit” and is directly correlated with increased productivity and happiness throughout the rest of the day.

4. Do Your Dusting at Night

Time Commitment: 3 Minutes

Setting aside large chunks of time every weekend to deep clean your home isn’t always realistic. Instead, carve out three minutes every day to wipe away dust and organize your space.

Tip: Pick a different spot each night so that you eventually cover the entire house.

5. Check Out Your Windows

Time Commitment: 5 – 10 Minutes

If you’re crunched for time but feel like your room needs a face-lift, Windex the windowpanes. This will bring more light into the room, which makes your entire house seem cleaner and brighter!

6. Be Proactive About Problems

Time Commitment: 15 – 30 minutes

If you get into the habit of ignoring small issues like squeaky doors, peeling wallpaper and dripping faucets, you no longer have a “small problem.” You have a Frankenstein monster of minor complications.

The solution is easy: if something’s broken, take care of it right away. It will typically take less than 30 minutes to fix a small issue, and you’ll save yourself an expensive, time-consuming fix down the road.

7. Go on a Tossing Spree

Time Commitment: 5 – 15 Minutes

This is something that doesn’t need to be done every day. But, if you see something you haven’t used in at least a year, toss it! Run through your appliances, china and furniture, and see what you really need and what can be donated or thrown away.
