It never ceases to amaze me how people generate trash/junk piles on their property, rather than disposing of it properly, leaving it to the next owner to clean up behind them. This looks beautiful Lori. I especially like the splash of brilliant orange on the frame that compliment the bed and flowers. -
Thanks, Becky. I could think of reasons why it might be difficult to get rid of yard waste when garbage services won't take them here...at least, I could if it weren't for that yard waste dump. They generally charge a dollar or two for a pickup load--just enough money to keep it open and maintained. This was just lazy. -
Lori, a great transformation and I like the orange trellis made out of a door frame? Are you training plants to grow up it? -
There is a hyacinth vine that has just reached the opening and is beginning to climb. -
Lori...........close up, close up please. I've never seen a hyacinth vine. -
Mine aren't this glorious this year...yet. But the miserable heat of the last week has gotten them moving. Hyacinth has a very high heat/drought tolerance and grows like crazy. Mine this year are from harvested seeds from last year. -

Those are quite lovely! Do they smell like hyacinths? Thank you for providing the close up!!!! They should look absolutely smashing up against the orange trellis. -
Lori - love the orange. Bet you don't loose sight of it this year!! Hyacinth "beans" ?? Never heard of this either, is it an edible type of bean or does the plant forms pods that looks like beans? It's gorgeous whatever it is!! -
Purely ornamental, but a very rigorous and fast growing vine. Inside the pods there are black and white beans that are viable seeds when dry. -
Sooooo . . . . .IF I were to send you a SASE would you . . . . .????? -
If I get seeds, I would be glad to send you some, Susan. I am told that sometimes the seeds don't fully develop, and that was true of many of the pods last fall. I was only able to harvest about 40 seeds but my germination rate with those seeds was 100%. I shared a lot of plants--three vines were super prolific last year. -
Do you have to pick the pods off the vine or do they open and pop the seeds out when they're fully developed??? I'm just wondering if maybe the pods aren't dry enough if you pick them off the vine. Most seed pods look like they're practically dead when they are ready to be picked. Too green and they aren't mature enough. BUT, it's your Hyacinth and I'll just bet you know what you're supposed to do and when!! lol -
Evidently maturity is tough to get to with the bean. There were literally hundreds of very dry pods, but only some yielded truly dry bean seeds. Now, this year everything here had a very early start due to an early spring, so I am curious to see how the extended growing season impacts seed production. The seeds are really pretty, kind of a black and white ying and yang sort of thing.
