Back To School Mantel (As a Fall Mantel Alternative)

It was time to take down my summer mantel, and put up something for fall. Since the kids are heading back to school, but the crisp coolness of fall isn't in the air (yet) I decided to decorate my mantel with a "back to school" theme instead of leaves and pumpkins.
My favorite piece is the large "international children" artwork (which is stretched fabric on a wooden frame.) It hung in my husband's childhood home and I asked his mom if I could have it as a wedding gift when we got married.. i just adore it! I also featured a thrift store globe, some school supplies, apples and even a garland made from old flashcards.
A perfect way to decorate a mantel for the transition between summer and fall!
