E V - WOW!! This turned out gorgeous. For sure, just HOW do you clean a rug like that? First, shoes come off at the door, right?

Just wait til the animal advocates see this!! Shhhh - I won't tell ;~)

Miriam & Susan - I just vacuum the hide with the hose attachment. We usually walk around shoeless (but don't make our guests - it's not a museum after all)!!

No it's not a museum - BUT . . . .then again, I'm bettin not very many people have a real live cowhide rug on their floor either!! LOL I think you'd be more than justified in politely requesting your guests to remove their shoes. Hey, I know - you could provide those little paper booties for people to put on!! XXXXX-treme??? ;~)

So pretty! I love my cowhide rug...it's much more durable than you would think. The hide has natural oils in it and things seem to just wipe off with no "soaking in" if you spill something. I take mine outside and beat it occassionally because you can't use a beater brush on it without the edges of the rug getting caught up in the vacuum, and the floor attachment doesn't seem to get everything. It's really easier to maintain than a typical rug, and soooo soft on the feet.

@Leslie - yeah, but hers is "hair on" cow hide and a rather large one at that. Those things are H-E-A-V-Y!! Does yours still have the hair or is a large tanned hide???

Oh Leslie - that's gorgeous too!! Yea- just go beat the heck outta that thing!! My husband was a Manufacturer's Rep for a furniture co. and used to get hides from the leather companies once in a while. Hind sight here . . . . .Dang ;< ( I have oodles of small leather swatches, and actually a few of them are like maybe placemat size, however, they're all different colors. I just keep thinkin there has to be something I can do w/all these samples. Well, enjoy your cow hide - you have a unique rug there!!

Thanks, Susan. I was surprised that I was able to get this on Ebay for under $160...less than what I would have paid for an off-the-rack area rug in the same size!

LOL Susan...probably! They have them in all sizes...mine is basically a 5' x 7' and fit our small family room. So many colors to choose from, too!

I got mine at a consignment store for $200 but Ikea sells them for the same price too. And Leslie - yours looks fab in your living room!

@Leslie & EV. Ikea sells cow hide rugs? I don't know why but that's the last place I'd ever think would carry real cow hide rugs!! Leslie - so how do you search for something like this on Ebay? Just go to their site and do a search for Cow Hide rugs??

Susan - yes, just type cow hyde into the search and lots should pop up. I know - Ikea isn't just Swedish meatballs and Cinnamon Buns anymore!!

Yep, Susan...just check the seller's feedback to make sure they are good, honest sellers and watch out for shipping charges, and avoid any overseas transactions. Sometimes, the price of the item can be low, and shipping, when you look is $300. 98% of people selling on EBAY are great, but look closely at details...here are scammers everywhere...LOL

@EV - soooooo - do I need to learn to speak Swedish to communicate with my cow hide? LOL

@Leslie - for sure. There are scammers involved in absolutely everything anymore. You can't just go make a good honest purchase and expect the other party to do likewise. What ever happened to honesty & integrity?? The shipping/handling can be totally ridculous sometimes - can't turn your back for a minute :<(
