Hi friends!!! I have a few updates to my office that I wanted to share with you. There will be 3 parts to sharing this bookshelf makeover. Up first today is the before and after. Second, will be the story behind this piece. Lastly, I will be sharing some details about the accessories and what I am learning along the way.
Here was my inspiration photo for my office that I created on Olioboard.com. The inspiration for this room started with the fabric designed by P Kauffman called Tutti Fruitti. I ordered a sample from Tonic Living. I love the color and it worked will with the existing paint. My original plans for the office entailed a totally different color scheme in which the paint color was chosen. I had to find a fabric that would coordinate with paint color in the room and Tutti Fruitti was it. Doesn't the name sound fun?
I wanted the office to have a light and fresh feel for the overall design plan. I wanted the furnishings to be predominately white, with pink and brass as the accessories. I chose the a white credenza from Ikea as my storage inspiration piece. The office is not a large space. It is only 5 feet wide by 8 feet long so space is limited. I needed storage that would not overpower or take over the room. Since Ikea is 3 hours away, I visited Craigslist to see if I could find something similar to the credenza that I selected. One day while searching I came across this book shelf.
This bookshelf was hand built by a father for his son 30 years ago. My favorite part about the book shelf is the brass fasteners that connects each joint. Since I had plans on using brass as an accent in the room, this piece was perfect.
I applied painters tape to the brass fasteners and painted the entire book shelf in white. I will admit that this was one of those projects that I thought I would have completed in 2 hours. Well, 6 hours later I decided to call it a day. There was still a few places to paint and touch up but my work for that day was done.
I love how this book shelf turned out. It went from brown to profound! HA! It was definitely a labor of love but well worth it. I still have a lot of work to do in this small space which includes curtains, a chair, a desk and wall art. I will keep you updated with the progress along the way. I would love to hear what you think about the plans for the office. And maybe one day soon I will be typing out my blog post while sitting in the space. Have a great day.
