Thanks Penny and Miriam--the lilies were 25 cents apiece at WalMart about 5 years ago. They were miserable the first 2 years, but have really settled in. The secret is water. Lots of it all summer long. I feel very peaceful when I grab my 30 minute watering session each evening :-)

Tee hee, Miriam, Indiana summers are DRY! Penny, get it in the ground ASAP. If it is an older one, it should be very happy. Mine were young and the rabbits ate them for a few years. They like to be planted relatively shallow and just want a lot of water in the first season. After that, baring the rabbits, they should come back strong and happy! Oh, and my red hot pokers were grown from seed. Super easy to grow!

What beautiful gardens you have created, Jane. I've never lived anywhere I could grow kniphofia, so I am envious.

Jane P, your yard is beautiful & you should be very proud. It is a lot of work but the payback is wonderful. I see Smudge loves it, too.
