Rustic Chalkboard USA Map-DIY!

My latest DIY project on the blog today! Pottery Barn inspired Rustic Chalkboard USA Map. For complete details, click on the blog link here: http://countrydesignhome.com/2014/08/09/rustic-usa-chalkboard-map-diy/
The completed project proudly displayed on my family room mantel. It really is a statement piece!
This is the framed picture before. The print on fiberboard was adhered to this gorgeous frame. The print goes, the frame stays as is!
I glued balsa wood slats to cover the entire piece, then stained them so they appeared to be real planking.
Dry Brushing the stained wood to lighten.
Then I dry-brushed the slats with cream chalk paint to lighten it so the map would really be enhanced.
I have a ton of maps of the USA, and this one was the perfect size. So I cut it out and traced it on to the creamy background.
I painted it with three coats of chalkboard paint, then allowed to dry.
Using my mouse sander and very fine sandpaper, I roughened the surface to give it the aged, rustic appearance I was going for. For a complete tutorial, please visit my blog Country Design Home. http://countrydesignhome.com/2014/08/09/rustic-usa-chalkboard-map-diy/
