Backsplash ideas please

We are updating our 40 year old kitchen with a new stainless sink and granite countertops! The granite is "crema perla" (black & white speckled) from Home Depot. We've stripped our oak cabinets and drawers- they're a very light blonde color now. We plan to stain and varnish, but not sure yet (color or natural). Appliances are white. The house is sort-of country style. The granite was affordable but totally foreign to us! So, the dilemma - how to backsplash?! Any ideas are very welcome! Hubby is doing backsplash & leaning toward 12" slate-looking tile... THANKS!

My friend used aluminum sheeting beaten with a hammer to texturize and it looks great

Depending on your budget, you could use the same granite for your backsplash.

@Colimbia1 That's what we thought we'd do originally, at lease a 4" splash, but it ruined our budget!! But, what we did is totally cute- I'll post pics soon...

I love the tiles that are made from stainless steel.

I didn't use this for my whole back splash cause I only had only had enough for behind the sink. This was taken before grouted. They are pebble tiles. Have had many compliments on finished product.

@Diane Arnold Totally gorgeous... I actually got a sample from HD of a pebble "tile", but it was too busy w/the busy granite! Thanks Diane for sharing!

I got Silestone for my counters and put in the back splash myself. I used these small tiles and went up behind the sink, as you can see. I did about 4 tiles, or 4 inches around the rest of the counter top, and I did it myself. I did have help grouting it because that was actually the hardest part of this project. I still need to have it sealed, but the kitchen looks amazing now!
