just began planting the crevices in my rockwalls. How can such beauty thrive in the hot sun, in a crack in a rock?

I'm always similarly amazed by plants growing in what seems to be pure rock at about 13,000 feet up here in Colorado.

I love these little succulents. Portulacca's come in every color from white to red. They will reseed themselves and provide much welcome color on the hottest days of our summer. There pods contain hundreds of of seeds. When I clean up in the fall I lay the palnts in a collender over a bowl - I bottle and save other areas the following year.

Now I know the name of the plant i have growing out back - they take off like crazy and I found you can even tear some off and root them in water if you want more. Very attractive lookimg.

Good idea for around my pond, it needs some color but it is in partical shade. Will that work for these plants ?

Jo A - You could try impatiens around your pond. They'll tolerate partial sun and they do great in the shade. Creeping Jenny is also wonderful for ponds - it'll trail into the water!

Don't think portulacca would do very good in shade. I had them there until they were about dead and then moved them to the sunny side and hottest, driest spot.

I needed an idea like this! I have stones that I was trying to find something to plant between! Thanks for sharing!
