Easy
I wanted to replace my porch lights with solar lights. But, after testing some solars we had in the garden we realized, we would not have sufficient sunlight to charge the cells. I had seen some pendant porch lights on the Home Depot website that I liked; but at $138.00 each they were pricey. We needed two. We went to Habitat Restore hoping to find two of the same, with no results.
Before
The more I looked at what we had found with the house two years ago, the more I thought something could be done. I asked my handy husband to take them down.
After
He thought they would fall apart because they were encrusted with dead bugs and dirt. He sprayed the thumbs screws with PB lubricant and they came away easily. Then he removed the glass panels and put them in the dishwasher to clean thoroughly.
Mounted
He brushed the frames lightly with a wire brush and rinsed with water. When the frames were dry, he sprayed them with black Krylon primer and paint in one (less than $6.00). What a difference? The lights are slightly different in shape; but you can hardly tell. They look almost like new. They will do until we find two matching ones that we really like.
