Plumbago is Not a Pain

Plumbago is a flower. Lumbago is a disease. Or a pain in your lower back to be exact.
Anyhow, I seem to keep mixing the two up!
But, wow. I just love my plumbago more and more every single day. It has just been blooming and growing non-stop all summer!
Too bad I'll have to throw it in the trash in a couple months.
It's an annual up here in the north. I hear in the south it's a perennial though. May just have to move down south!
Imperial Blue Plumbago (Plumbago auriculata)

full sun to part shade

grows to 4' tall (mounding)
It's a mixture of the prettiest green leaves and heavenly blue flowers.
Come on, who wouldn't love this flower!! How gorgeous are these blooms!

A friend of mine has plumbago growing in northern Nevada and it comes back every year. She prunes it back hard in the fall and then heavily mulches with straw and fallen leaves and then covers the plants with a large upside down basket and then an old quilt or something similar. It's a bit of work but she's had these for several years where winter temperatures go to below zero for nighttime lows for at least a couple weeks every winter.
