New Use for an Old Door

We were in need of something to add character to an empty wall in our kitchen. So my husband and I removed the glass insert in an old door, stapled a burlap sack to the back of the opening, and added shelves made from pallet boards. So simple!! I love the way the door fills the space and it has provided me with great storage to display my vintage finds!

Great idea. Always so nice to see people re-using instead of throwing away and buying new. Might have to use this idea someday myself!

I would have left the glass and put a nice fabric behind it.

Love the idea, it adds interest to generally an ignored element in shelving and in this case, "ages" the display for the vintage pieces. Thank you for sharing.

Wonderful idea! I have a window to nowhere in my kitchen. I can use this idea to cover it up without having to tear out a part of my wall. It could make a desk/TV area that I want except I think I'll try to get a mirror fitted to the spot. Thnx!!!

The idea is adorable, but the presentation & shelf arrangement of collections is well done!

Melissa - I'll be scouring the side of the road for an old door now! And the burlap backing looks amazing.
