I absolutely love the designs and products from Ferm Living, but, the bottom line is...the bottom line. Eighty dollar toss pillows simply aren't in our budget right now. If you are like me and want to "get the look" on the cheap, then read on!
First, mix up a batch of fabric paint by mixing textile medium and acrylic paint according to the package instructions
Use a pencil and straight edge to mark straight lines on a pillow cover. Then, cut a potato in half lengthwise and crosswise to make your half moon shape. I used three different potatoes for my project to give it a varied look.
use a small paintbrush to apply the fabric paint to your stamp and then Carefully, CAREFULLY, stamp along the straight lines. I dropped a stamp on the pillowcase about half way through which ruined it, so what you are seeing is actually my second attempt!
Depending on which textile medium you use, you might need to heat set the paint after letting it dry for twenty four hours.
Aside from grade school art, this was my first attempt at potato stamping; overall it's pretty darn easy and very inexpensive! I'm wondering what else I can apply this technique to? Curtains perhaps? Have you used the potato stamp technique before?
