Historic Renovation in West Chester, PA

Known as "Edgewood," this home on the National Register of Historic Places was built on a Revolutionary War battlefield in 1845. Combining Gothic Revival architecture with Quaker influences - and with a tower addition built in 1889 - "Edgewood" stands out in a region dominated by Colonial architecture. Over the past century, while passing hands from homeowner to homeowner, the condition of the home gradually deteriorated.

Pine Street Carpenters renovated nearly every square foot of this home. Every detail in the home was designed to unite the historic character of the home with the homeowners' own tastes and lifestyle.

Absolutely beautiful!! Period homes can be tricky, but your building/restoration of the tower shows quality research and workmanship. The home is lovely and I am sure tthe owners must be pleased.

Just breathtaking! I would like to know how the ceiling was set up near the staircase. Is that 1x1 or diagonally placed bead board and molding?

Thanks for all the comments, everyone.

Angela: the coffered ceiling in the main hallway was original to the home (built in 1845), so they are individual boards and not beadboard.

I think people who restore these old homes should be given some kind of tax break for saving these historic structures. It's really more expensive than demolishing and building a McMansion in its place.
