Mystery plant growing in my yard

I would really like to know what this is . . .it is not your typical flower - these are teardrop shaped and the petals do not open ( very smooth and compacted )- except at the very top you see a little bit of yellow. This is just one branch of a large plant. The leaves are pointy and kind of weedy looking . . does someone know what this is??

Terri, you have all kinds of plants out west that I'm not familiar with, but if you add a photo of the leaves and the whole plant, we might have a shot.

Could be totally wrong, but could this be Milkweed?

Thank you for your input! I actually found a site that gave me the info . . .after a lot of searching and the plant is a Pearly Everlasting a sub species of Aster. I found it on Willdflowers-and-weeds.com. I did not plant this and it is growing right smack in the middle of my Pestimon plant! I like it and it will stay <3

This looks like a weed that my oldtime locals call rabbit tobacco.

Sounds like the plant made the right choice when it decided to check out your garden!
