High Impact Stair Landing Feature Wall

My stairwell is against a shared wall and so it doesn't have any windows. The landing on the stairs has just ONE GIANT 18 FOOT wall of nothing. It is a huge space, but not ideal for hanging large artwork because of the variety of angles you are viewing it from. Plus anything I hang runs the risk of being knocked off the wall as my kids thunder down the stairs.
So what was I to do? I wanted something that was large scale.. dramatic and didn't protrude from the wall at all.
I was left with.. PAINT. Of course.
After sketching out a design on photoshop and then doing a LOT of math of figure out exactly how to paint it, I was able to tape off the wall and add a large graphic design.
The entire process took about 10 hours (not including the 4 hours I spent designing and calculating the dimensions) 5-6 hours of taping, 2-3 hours of prep and painting and a little under an hour to remove the tape.
All in all, it was a TON of work, but totally worth it. For more photos and detailed step by step tips on how I painted the textured wall without paint bleed you can visit: http://www.thekimsixfix.com/2014/08/painted-stairwell-landing-feature-wall.html
The hallway before.. One of the most non-descript spaces you could imagine.
The pattern I envisioned based on the dimensions of the wall itself (I drew this up in photoshop)
A computer-rendered schematic of the pattern repeat. I needed these number to figure out exactly where the paint lines needed to be.

I love the wall you did in your stairway. It really makes the wall stand out. I also love the dark stain accents. Too bad you had to do so much taping, but in the end it was worth it. Gives me all kinds of inspirations now, end though nothing really needs to be painted. Thanks for sharing your idea
