It looks like a hybrid Fushia, lovely. Where is it growing?

We had them in our yard when I was growing up. We used to hold the white part and pop them on the back of our hand and they made a popping noise. But have no clue what they are called.

@Maria D - LOL, when I first saw the picture I was thinking how gorgeous and unusual and that it probably has some werid name like"something bladder" - and then I read what you said!!! I do like Debbie A's description, Japanese Lantern. Hope someone knows cuz clearly none of us do!! Walter, Doug - what do you guys say????

Actually, it kinda reminds me of a Hot Air Balloon!!!

It looks like Silene cucubalis (Bladder Campion). It is a native wildflower (weed) that blooms June-August in vacant lots, fields and roadsides throughout the USA.

@Amy S - wanna share some seeds?? I'll send you a SASE. Several of us "talked" about starting a seed exchange - I believe it's still in the "talking" stage!! LOL I have an area in the far back section of our yard where there's a huge ugly manhole sitting on a concrete base. I wouldn't care of these flowers took over the whole space!!

It's Silene. Probably Silene vulgaris. Related to campion.
